Overview
Azelaic acid is a dicarboxylic acid naturally produced by yeast that lives on skin. At 10% (OTC) or 15–20% (prescription), it treats acne, rosacea, and hyperpigmentation simultaneously. It is one of the few actives safe during pregnancy and is exceptionally well-tolerated by sensitive skin types.
How It Works
Azelaic acid inhibits tyrosinase (reducing hyperpigmentation), has antibacterial activity against P. acnes, reduces keratin production (preventing pore clogging), and has anti-inflammatory properties.
